Waddon Marsh at DEMU Showcase 24 - Sutton Coldfield Town Hall - Saturday 15th June 2024
Welcome back and we are now looking at layout number 3 from Diesel & electric Modellers United Showcase 2024.
Wadden Marsh really floated my boat, being familiar with and a lover of the Croydon area. And it features great modelling and Cromptons!
Waddon Marsh used to be part of the British Rail network, on the suburban route between West Croydon and Wimbledon - the famous - or is it infamous? - "wall of death". 2 power stations and a gas works added more traffic to the route. Once these had gone, the whole area disappeared under the dreaded retail parks. The BR network disappeared too in 1997 as the route became part of the Croydon Tramlink network - now part of TfL.
Passenger trains use the island platform, on the third rail electrified lines. The station provides a passing loop on the single line. The rear line is not electrified, so is only available to diesel hauled trains. At the left hand end of the layout are the CEGB sorting sidings, complete with their own shunting locos.
I hope you enjoy the layout - I certainly did and probably wouldve voted it the best layout at the showcase, this year.

Welcome back and in this film we see another cracking layout from the Diesel and Electric Modellers United Showcase exhibition, held at Sutton Coldfield town hall, on Saturday 15th June 2024. Gordon's Lane is a real train watchers layout. A double track, 3rd rail electrified mainline runs the full length of the layout, with a Network Rail MPV depot featuring centre and left of scene. The fiddle...

Hello and welcome back to the channel. Saturday 16th June and I made the journey upto Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands for DEMU Showcase 2024 - the annual show of the Diesel & Electric Modellers United. Firstly, time for an admission! I missed one of the halls completely, so my coverage of the event is a bit lacking - my apologies. This will be the first of a small number of films that wil...

Hi and welcome back to the channel. Our annual Summer holiday has come and gone and as always, I bring you a quick look around our hotel / resort. This year we changed to visiting a Greek island - Crete. Now, this was really interesting as I have not done a Greek holiday in nearly 30 years - has much changed? (No! not really.) Our holiday was booked online with TUI. 9 nights, all inclusive, in ...

Welcome back to the channel! This week we pay a visit to Wessex Narrow Gauge Modellers, Narrow Gauge South show, held at the Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh, on Saturday 27th April 2024. I haven't been to many specifically narrow gauge shows previously, but as I am currently building a OO9 narrow gauge layout of my own, I've decided to attend a few. This film doesn't feature every layout that...

Hello and welcome back to the channel! Also, welcome back to the Calne model railway show, organised by the Bentley Model Railway Group - a show that has been missing from the exhibition calendar for too long. The show was blessed with a number of excellent layouts, many of which have previously appeared in my videos. There was a great supporting cast of traders, supplying a wide range of model...

Late March and I'm going back to Crewe for the MIOG group exhibition, held at the Crewe Heritage Centre. But, how could I refuse, after last years great layouts? So, an early start from West Wiltshire gets me to Crewe just as the show opens. I used the complimentary bus service this year, due to the intermittent rubbish weather. More great work from the organisers, before you even get to the ve...

Welcome back to my channel! I've not been to a MODRAIL event in about 30 years, when it used to be held in a school in West Swindon. The event is now held more centrally, in a side building that is part of STEAM museum. Unfortunately, the lighting in the exhibition space is very poor, meaning good layout lighting is a must. There was a great variety of layouts, in all the popular scales and one...

We are back in Somerset this weekend and making a first visit to the Glastonbury and Street Lions Club show, held at the Meadway Hall in Compton Dundon village. This show was very much held in the memory of former organiser, Howard Martin, who sadly passed away in March 2023. This show had a very narrow ga...

Welcome back to the channel and a first video for 2024. I didnt manage to get to the Frome exhibition in January due to work commitments, so Alton Model Railway Groups FEBEX has been my first trip out. As you will have noted, not all the layouts at the show have been filmed. I have decided to focus on fewer layouts at each show, trying to capture better footage of those that have not been seen ...

Was fortunate to stay here quite a few years back. I preferred the second part of the hotel it was quieter. Thank you for the memories...at least all that walking to the other side you didnt feel too guilty in having that extra wedge of cake😊
Hi, sorry to ask but did you notice if they have many gluten free options ? Or labels over the foods , thanks 😊
Was it worth it. Thinking of trying it myself
Hi Adam. Certainly was - the guys were absolute pros.
@@ba14eagle I’m going to get myself booked in there then
Hi
Hello!
Cracking layout, I've a soft spot for the Southern and Class 33s. Thanks for sharing 👍✌️😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful and good detailled!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice scenery!
Thank you for watching.
Lose the music please! 👎
Unfortunately, the ambient noise was too much on this film - it had to go - sorry.
good videoing it came across as very realistic in quite a few shots, and if i hadnt seen the title i would have thought 0 gauge :)
many thanks - i do try to find view points, as you or i would see things at ground level
Very nice,good and good detailled!
Thank you very much!
Great layout and good film!
many thanks
Thanks for sharing the vid!
No problem!
Thanks for sharing and taking us along, some outstanding layouts there✌️💜👍😊
Glad you enjoyed it.
Well done!
Very nice🎉. Regards Lizzie
Many thanks - hopefully, some better weather will see some running very soon
Nice show, One thing I worked at Shirebrook West as a secondman, We worked 16 pits and never had windows in such a state that you see here, Grimy locos now and again but not to this extent, Sometimes a lot less grim is more realistic, Sorry for going on.
It's a tricky balance, that can be difficult to achieve - even in the larger scale. Thank you for your comment.
Nicely done,,excellent details, thanks for sharing..😊
Thank you for watching 😊
As always thanks for sharing - I've not been to Steam for many years. BTW where did the birdsong come from🤔🤔
The birdsong was a soundtrack being played on Hanbid Sidings. Its quite nice, but after a couple of hours it got a bit annoying. Im currently building an exhibition layout which will have something similar - but it will have a button press activation or an on/off switch!
Wow! This must have took long and a lot of work to make. I am guessing it didn't have motion?
It is a fully industry compliant simulator, so has all the motions of the real thing.
lots of great layouts but hobbiton won the day for me :)
Good choice! Some really original modelling, done in great detail. The bottom house had a detailed interior! Shame I couldn't get the camera in close enough.
Thanks for sharing - delightful models
Thank you. Lots of proof that you don't have to build big to produce a great layout.
Thanks for sharing 👍✌️😊💜
Thanks for watching
Good selection 👍
Thank you
Just marvelous layout. Completely spoiled by backround chatter !. Thanks guys. Dave
Thanks for your comment. Background chatter is always a problem - unfortunately, some people do have very loud voices 😐
Glad you enjoyed the show. I choose the layouts and I’m already planning next years show
Thank you. I thought this year was a standout year, so you will have your work cut out to better it 😊
Thanks for showing Iain I never really looked at any of the layouts, anyways good to see you 👌😎☕️
Thanks Fred - hope you had a good day.
Great to see the club’s O gauge track and St Bride’s featuring in the video.
What a great selection of layouts. Particularly enjoyed the GWR P4 loco and the tea plantation. Always love something a bit different!
Agreed - both layouts were superb and it shows you don't need a huge layout to have a great layout
Have to agree with you, my laout is actually four layouts all connected into one huge railway and it's way too big!
I see the shot from the crossing gate worked well, nice to see the layout on UA-cam thanks Pat PS I did some video from the crossing gate I see a NSE 47👍
Thanks Pat. The crossing gates worked brilliantly. Subbed your channel.
Such a shame about the withdrawal of these sets.
Sure is - I still havent had a number of the locos for haulage
Great modelling on all the layouts. Nether Stowey to me is particularly impressive.
Re Nether Stowey - the old layout was showing its age, but, the village in particular, was beautifully modelled. I'm sure the new owners will do a great job in getting it back to its former glory.
I thought the layouts (particularly the Chinese coal layout) were all superb. Certainly the best for several years. Not many trade stands (I understand the Cardiff show was changed late on and then clashed so maybe that was it). The school surpassed themselves as normal with the quality of the food on offer. A good restaurant with some model railways attached (to misquote the famous line about the National Gallery, I think it was). Thanks for the video-a good quality reminder of the day.
Thank you. There were indeed plenty of high quality layouts on show. Regarding the food - the portions of hot food were huge - too much for me.
Great Show with stunning layouts and beautifully photographed/videoed - thanks to everyone involved.
Many thanks!
Thanks for the footage of my Little Himalayan Railway! ❤
You are very welcome. It's really nice to see models inspired by different prototypes. Thanks for watching.
The modelling of scenery/houses on these layouts is incredible. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I fully agree - scenic modelling has really hit great heights. Many thanks for watching.
Just came back from Miniature Wunderland and this place is just so amazing. It's so hard to see everything in just one visit. My wife already promised me we will be back. She was amazed as well, it's been 8 years but I'm turning her into a rail fan, both model and real ones.
First time I went, I went in twice in a week and now it's even bigger - wow!
More great footage and layouts. That last layout was exquisitely modelled, such a shame about the "holes in the sky" didn't have adequate view-blockers.
Another awesome video, thanks for taking us along, some great layouts there👍✌️💜😊
Glad you enjoyed it - thank you for your support.
some nicelayouts there..
Thanks for your continued support - part 2 will be out shortly.
Awesome video with great layouts. Hi from NZ
Many thanks!
Nice
Brilliant video!! Great clarity, lovely trains and, all in all, a jolly good show!!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
👌😎☕️
Thanks Fred. Best wishes

Thanks for your support
I visited this exhibition on the Sunday and enjoyed the variety of layouts being exhibited. I have visited this exhibition a few times and it is usually interesting. I'm still editing my video of the layouts but hope to have Part 1 posted tomorrow, but it's interesting to see them from a different viewpoint.
Thanks Keith. I always look forward to catching up with your exhibition videos.
Excellent coverage and photography here. Some jaw droppingly good layouts. I especially liked Elmbridge and Stephen's Lane - proving that modern image layouts can have every bit as much operating interest as stuff from wayback. Woolbridge is chocolate box beautiful!
Thank you. I'm not a GWR fan, but I do like Woolbridge and Connaught Road was also interesting and entertaining. The small N gauge layouts are always interesting, seeing how far the builders imagination can go.
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
@@ba14eagle np! Please do more like this earned yourself a sub
Bakewell Street now known as Castlebank Sidings.
Thanks for the update - I will look forward to seeing any changes you might make.
What track and power are you using out doors?
I use DCC - the base unit in the shed feeds the track.
@@ba14eagle any specific track for the on30 Oxford outdoor use?
No, it is just normal Peco streamline that I run my OO gauge on. Obviously, the sleeper spacing wasnt right, but if Peco do On30 track, that would be better.
Another cracking video - thanks for taking us along 👍💜😊✌️
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching 🙂
